Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Cat Bot (the "Bot") collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and how to control or delete your data. It applies to the Bot regardless of which name or invite link you used to add it ("Cat Bot", "Catboy Bot", "Catgirl Bot" are all the same underlying service).

1. What we collect

• Discord server (guild) ID — to keep per-server counts and settings separate.
• Discord user ID — to keep a per-user meow/bark count and to know who has opted out.
• Message counts — a running number per user, per server, per category ("meow" or "bark"). A message is counted at most once per category, no matter how many trigger words it contains.
• Opt-out status — your user ID and the time you opted out, if you've used /optout.
• Server configuration — which channels an admin has enabled for random meows, and how many per day.

2. What we never collect

The Bot does not store message content. Each message is checked in memory against a list of meow/bark words to decide whether to increment a counter, and the text itself is discarded immediately afterward — it's never written to a database or log. Code blocks and links are excluded from matching entirely. We also don't collect usernames, avatars, emails, or IP addresses.

3. How we use it

Solely to power the Bot's own features: /stats, /leaderboard, per-server configuration, and honoring opt-outs. We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose outside making the Bot work.

4. Sharing

We don't sell or share your data with third parties. The only party that ever sees message content is Discord itself, as the platform the Bot operates on — governed by Discord's own Privacy Policy.

5. Data retention

Counts are kept indefinitely so stats and leaderboards stay meaningful over time. Opting out (/optout) stops future counting immediately but does not erase your existing totals — if you'd like your data deleted entirely, contact us (below) and we'll remove it.

6. Your rights & opt-out

• Run /optout anytime to stop being counted; /optin to resume.
• Contact us to request a copy of the data we hold about you, or to have it deleted entirely.

7. Children

The Bot is not directed at children and is only available through Discord, which requires users to meet Discord's own minimum age requirement.

8. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time; the date at the top always reflects the latest version. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
